Overview
Excel Machine Technologies, Inc. has an immediate opening for an Applications Engineer to join our team. As a machine application engineer you will be responsible for machine setup, programming and production of customer parts as a component of the sales process. The chosen candidate will work at customers’ plants and at our Rochester, NY showroom. Travel weekly to customer sites throughout NYS is required.

Responsibilities- Compile fixtures/work holding for demos, test cuts, and turnkey projects.
- Assist sales team with technical presentations, machine selection, and joint sales calls at customer sites.
- Conduct time study estimates for customer parts.
- Calculate optimal speeds and feeds for part processing.
- Use industry standard CAM systems; G-code/Macro programming to generate programs. Esprit experience is a plus.
- Inspect finished parts for quality and accuracy.
- Communicate effectively with internal staff, customers, and suppliers.
- Provide technical phone and email support for customers.
- Conduct pre-sale activities and reviews including customer visits, opportunity evaluation, machine assessment and turnkey proposal development.
- Develop/implement custom demonstrations and train customers in the safe setup and operation of CNC mills and lathes.
- Maintain in-depth technical knowledge of product lines represented by the company.
- Travel to customer sites and be adaptable to changing project priorities.
- 2-5 years of experience in operation and setup of CNC machine tools.
- Must be personable and customer/sales oriented.
- Must have an open mindset and ability to listen, reassure, and help customers.
- Strong communication and written/reporting skills with the ability to propose actionable steps.
- Ability to think through problems and resolve them independently.
- Mechanically inclined, hands-on with machinery/equipment.
- Willing to travel and maintain a flexible schedule.
- Experience with CAD/CAM and EIA/ISO (G-code) programming (e.g., Mastercam, Gibbs, Esprit, Fusion 360).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Knowledge of metal cutting tooling and material grades.
- Practical part processing knowledge and machine tool experience.
- Prior experience programming and operating Swiss-style machines is beneficial.
Exposure to manufacturing/machining environments with possible hazards such as noise, electricity, chemicals, heavy equipment, and other automated and manual machinery.
Frequent:
Travel, operating a vehicle, standing, walking, bending, squatting, stooping, sitting and reaching. Pushing, pulling, and lifting objects. Repetitive movements of the feet, legs, hands, arms, shoulders, and torso.
Periodic:
Operating power equipment, sitting at a desk, utilizing computers and phones.
Occasional:
Lifting or moving up to 50 lbs.
