Job PurposeIndividual will be responsible for setting up and running a range of grinders while maintaining production efficiencies. Must have good attention to detail and be accustomed to working and measuring to close tolerance and delicate parts. Responsible for maintaining work quality and performing in‑process inspection while upholding corporate values.
Duties and Responsibilities- Setup, adjust, and operate reciprocating or rotary wheel table surface grinders on more than one machine at a time.
- Work must conform to exacting tolerances with allowances for temperature and aging of materials.
- Perform shop math and calculations as necessary to complete assigned tasks.
- Know different tooling to operate at maximum efficiency.
- Cleans machine and coolant tanks.
- Follow established company policies.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Perform frequent setups as required.
- Perform basic machine maintenance such as changing fluids and filters.
- Maintain a clean work environment and machine work area.
- Read process sheets and mechanical drawings.
- High school diploma or GED/Technical Training Certificate/Equivalent experience.
- Work experience:
2–4 years in grinding. - Could require intermittent long periods of sitting, standing, and/or walking.
- Periodic lifting of materials not to exceed 40 pounds.
- Intermediate skill level using surface, cylindrical, Blanchard, centerless and form grinders.
- Intermediate competency using micrometers, indicators, calipers, Indi‑square.
- Willing to work beyond normal hours if needed.
- Understanding of both Metric and English measuring systems.
- Ability to understand blueprints.
- Ability to hold dimensional, parallel, perpendicular, and flatness tolerances.
- Experience using G & M code.
- Ability to true‑up grinding wheels.
- Previous experience grinding hard materials (glass, ceramics, carbides).
- Generally working in a production environment.
- Required exposure to industrial oils, coolants, solvents, lubricants, adhesive and other chemicals. All safety precautions will be used.
- Requirement for some independent actions and/or decisions is expected.
- Some repetitive motion required on occasion.
- Periodic lifting of materials and parts weighing up to 50 lbs. daily.
- Intermittent long periods of sitting and standing.
- Repetitive work tasks.
