Billing Specialist

Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Medical Billing Specialist for a mission-driven healthcare organization. This is a hybrid position based in Rochester, New York, with onsite work required two days per week.

The Medical Billing Specialist plays a key role in supporting the organization’s revenue cycle operations through accurate charge entry, claim follow-up, and payer communication. This position partners closely with internal billing and coding teams to ensure timely submissions, proper documentation, and efficient resolution of denials. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

• Competitive hourly compensation of $18–$22 per hour

• Full-time schedule (40 hours/week) with consistent 9:00 AM–5:00 PM hours
• Hybrid work model with onsite collaboration two days per week in Rochester, NY

• Perform charge entry and assist with coding coordination to support timely claim submission
• Monitor claim batching, clearinghouse rejections, and confirm successful submissions
• Review and resolve basic claim denials, including demographic, eligibility, and coding-related issues
• Retrieve missing documentation and prepare claims for resubmission
• Conduct routine payer follow-up calls and monitor unpaid claims within timely filing limits
• Document all actions, communications, and follow-up notes within the EHR system

• Hands-on experience with medical billing workflows and revenue cycle processes
• Familiarity with clearinghouse systems, payer portals, and claim follow-up procedures
• Ability to identify underpayments or unusual billing trends
• Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills
• Comfortable communicating with insurance payers by phone and electronically

This full-time position offers $18–$22 per hour
