Position: Youth Care Professional I - 1:1
Location: City of Rochester

Overview

The Youth Care Professional I supports the day-to-day functioning of residents and delivers relationship-based, competence-centered, and trauma-informed solutions to youth and families to help them reach their full potential. This role is a 1:1 support during school days, helping to create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth and safety.

Responsibilities
  • Engage youth and families in trust-based, productive relationships to help them prepare for transitions, interact in the community, and promote respect and independence.
  • Maintain vigilance and ratio to ensure safety of residents in accordance with agency and funder requirements.
  • Provide support services such as mentoring, emotional support, life skills training, and personal care to children.
  • Execute after school and weekend activities. Accompany children on outings; transport youth to and from home time and appointments.
  • Complete and maintain documentation in medical record system and daily logs to meet program requirements.
  • Supervise residents through trauma-informed approaches according to established program standards.
  • Respond to resident emergencies and safety issues in compliance with agency and regulatory mandated reporting protocols.
  • Apply appropriate emergency techniques as needed.
  • Recognize dysregulated youth behavior and apply the continuum of crisis prevention and intervention, including verbal and non-verbal de-escalation and, when required, protective interventions and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) approved physical restraints.
  • Build professional relationships that support individual development and success of residents; foster a safe, caring and supportive environment that promotes growth and positive outcomes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned as needed.
Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required
Special Requirements
  • CPR certification required or obtained within 60 days of hire.
  • Unrestricted, valid NYS driver’s license for a minimum of 1 year with a clean driving record and minimum agency-required insurance coverage (preferred).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

In addition to Hillside Professional Competencies of Communicates Effectively, Personal Excellence, Cultural Competence, Builds and Leverages Relationships and Optimizes Decision Making, demonstrate the following:

  • Demonstrate emotional competence and good judgment to build productive, engaged relationships with children, youth, staff and family while implementing required rules, expectations and routines.
  • Ability to complete all required documentation in a timely fashion according to policies and regulations.
  • Ability to recognize and address escalating and dysregulated youth behavior using behavior management training and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), including the use of physical interventions (holds).
  • Demonstrate problem-solving and conflict resolution skills with self and others.
  • Maintain the highest standard of ethical and professional conduct towards all.

  • Must be able to work variable scheduling including evenings and weekends.
  • Physical demands include occasional sitting, standing, walking; occasional driving; continuous balancing; occasional bending, stooping, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching; lifting and carrying; manual dexterity; exposure to dust, fumes, gases or chemicals; and use of protective clothing or equipment as required.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS

May be required to physically restrain clients weighing between 50 lbs. and 300 lbs. and guide them safely to the floor. In some circumstances, restraints can last up to 15 minutes and may require repetition as necessary.

Rochester, NY | Salary: $18.00 - $24.00 per hour, based on experience.
