ResponsibilitiesPerforms CT exams by following and verifying referring providers' orders and remaining in compliance with the Imaging Sciences department and all governing bodies with regular direct supervision or guidance from a more senior technologist. Responsible for performing I‑stats, pregnancy tests, starting IV’s, scanning patients in a safe and efficient manner, injecting IV contrast, preparing oral contrast, completing all associated paper and computer work, and discharging the patient from the CT department with appropriate post‑CT instructions.
EssentialFunctions
- Identifies patient service requirements. Educates patients/families regarding procedure and/or treatment to be performed. Prepares patient for radiological/CT procedures by positioning patient, adjusts immobilization devices, moves equipment into specified position, and adjusts equipment controls to set exposure factors. Performs procedures by following and verifying referring provider’s orders.
- Applies learned methodologies according to established policy and procedures.
- Produces high quality images and prepares/presents them, with other pertinent patient information, for timely interpretation.
- Prepares and maintains accurate documentation. Maintains production and quality of CT images by following established standards, orders, protocols and procedures.
- Practices radiation protection techniques (ALARA) using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding, and knowledge of exposure factors and automatic exposure controls.
- Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements.
- Troubleshoots and notifies appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance.
- Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors. Adheres to safety policies.
- May train new employees or lead day‑to‑day work activities.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Completion of formal training in an approved School of Radiologic Technology required.
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Licensed Radiologic Technologist – current NYS licensure upon hire required.
- ARRT – American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certification with CE credits upon hire required.
