Designed to guide students by three foundational principles—Exposure, Experience, and Engagement—this graduate program provides exposure to multiple business and engineering functions, hands‑on project assignments, and engagement in meaningful work that fosters leadership and career growth. The core of the program consists of three rotating job assignments generally every 6‑9 months across one of the several potential tracks.
The Hydro Engineering group is responsible for the engineering, technical, regulatory and project support needed to safely, reliably, and efficiently operate and maintain NYSEG and RG&E hydroelectric generating facilities and associated water retaining structures throughout New York State. The team is involved with capital project development, design and execution, engineering support for operations and maintenance, regulatory and environmental compliance, and long‑term asset management.
Hydro Engineering works closely with Hydro Operations, project management, regulatory agencies, and contractors to ensure safe and reliable operation of the facility, which supports renewable energy goals and objectives.
This opportunity will be located in Rochester, NY within the Hydro Engineering Group.
Rotations and TracksParticipants will rotate through the following tracks, each lasting 8 months. The order may change based on business need.
- Operations & Maintenance – Support engineering‑driven O&M activities essential to safe, reliable, and efficient hydroelectric operation. Responsibilities include equipment/facility condition assessments, performance and reliability studies, and preventative maintenance planning.
- Hydroelectric Capital Projects – Engage with the full lifecycle of major capital projects: initiation, planning, design, and construction. Exposure to project financials, schedules, engineering drawings, procurement, stakeholder engagement, and contractor coordination.
