Brekland is an early‑stage climate resilience agriculture company based in New York that develops systems to help farmers protect their crops from billion‑dollar frost events. Brekland’s solution is a biodegradable spray‑on foam that can be applied just hours before a frost and protect sensitive crops from damage. We will begin commercializing our first product in 2026 and expanding beyond frost into other product lines.
Brekland is a VC backed company (including Collab SFF, Gigascale Capital and Safar Partners), is supported by Activate and is the recent winner of the $1M Grow‑NY prize.
About the jobWe’re looking for a Hardware Manufacturing Engineer to support the design and scale‑up of our foam spray system. You’ll work closely with our current hardware engineer and our Chief Scientific Officer to improve our system and help set up and scale our manufacturing.
About you- You’re a builder and deliver. You’re excited about building hardware, you can own it from start to finish and can move quickly.
- You’re a resourceful problem solver. When faced with a new problem, you identify multiple paths to find a solution and will make it happen.
- We’ve completed a commercial prototype of our first product – your role will be to continue developing our hardware system and begin to improve it for manufacturing scale‑up later in fall 2026.
- To meet our cost and volume targets, you will continue the development of our existing system, identify areas to improve the hardware and lead the design and iteration of those improvements to reach manufacturing scale.
- This role will initially be remote, until we have a permanent office established in the Ithaca‑Geneva‑Rochester region. This role will require travel to field testing sites in the Finger Lakes and occasional travel to NYC.
- Either a BS/MS in mechanical/chemical engineering (or related field), a track record of transitioning prototypes to manufacturing and scaling up production.
- A comfort with hydraulics/fluid mechanics, ideally having designed and built systems that deal with fluid flow.
- Experience in DFA/DFM or related techniques.
- Experience working in agriculture, including building equipment, operating equipment, or working in agricultural operations generally.
- You’ve designed and built 2+ hardware prototypes or done other design/build projects outside of work.
- Experience machining parts, welding, 3D printing and other component fabrication skills.
- Proficient in French and/or Spanish.
- Total compensation range between $100k‑130k, plus equity and benefits. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and skills match.
