Pay Rate: $55/hour for teaching | minimum $150 per weekly residency | $25/ hour for meetings, curriculum development, & event support. May include weekend and evening hours as needed, depending on programming.

Geva Theatre Center seeks passionate Teaching Artists to join our roster to support in-school, after-school, and community-based theatre programs across the Greater Rochester area. This part-time, in-person position is ideal for artists and educators excited to work with youth in grades K-12, as well as teens, & adults. Our curriculum focuses on using educational and applied theatre pedagogy to spark leadership, critical thinking, and ensemble-based collaboration.

Geva’s Connectivity Department
-which encompasses Education, Engagement, and Accessibility-works to deepen relationships with the diverse communities including charter, public, and private schools and cultural organizations of Rochester. Geva Teaching artists are key in uplifting participant’s voices through inclusive, student centered, arts education.

Teaching Artists report to the Director of Connectivity and collaborate with the Connectivity team.

• Teach or co-teach theatre workshops, classes, and residencies for students in grades K–12; theatre for the very young, teens and adults (depending on preference, program needs, and schedule).
• Lead process-based residences that incorporate NYS Next Generation Standards and integrate into school curriculum and culminate in informal sharing or performance.
• Create participant-driven original plays.
• Collaborate on curriculum building with Connectivity team and facilitate applied theatre workshops for Geva community partner organizations.

• Connect lessons to school-day curricula, themes, or classroom needs.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and community partners.
• Build meaningful, ongoing relationships with participants, educators, families, and partner organizations.
• Represent Geva with professionalism, warmth, humor, and care.

• Ensure programs are inclusive, equitable, accessible, and aligned with Geva’s values and current education best practices.
• Adapt teaching strategies to support diverse learners, including early childhood learners and students with disabilities.
• Maintain a safe, curious, and creative learning environment for all students.
• Participate in training and professional development led by Geva’s Connectivity team.
• Communicate effectively with staff regarding scheduling, program needs, and student progress.

• Experience teaching and/or developing theatre curriculum in areas such as devising, improvisation, directing/acting, and arts integration.
• Experience teaching diverse populations (early childhood, students with disabilities, and multi-language learners).
• Experience teaching in-school, after-school, community-based, or summer programs.
• Comfort connecting theatre activities to school‑day curriculum themes.
• Commitment to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion in education and the arts.
