The College of Health Sciences and Technology at the Rochester Institute of Technology is initiating a Doctor of Physical Therapy Program (DPT) and invites applications and nominations for the full‑time, 12‑month, tenure‑track or non‑tenure track position of Director of Clinical Education (DCE) at an academic rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (tenure‑track), Assistant or Associate Clinical Professor (non‑tenure track), or Clinical Professor of Practice (non‑tenure track) commensurate with experience in teaching and scholarship.
The program is planned to meet the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) accreditation requirements.
The Director of Clinical Education (DCE) provides leadership, coordination, and oversight of all aspects of the clinical education portion of the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program, ensuring students experience high‑quality clinical education in compliance with CAPTE standards. The DCE works under the supervision of the DPT Program Director, faculty, and collaborates with staff to promote excellence in clinical education, including both integrated and full‑time experiences.
This core faculty appointment includes administrative, academic, scholarly, and service responsibilities that advance the program's mission and ensure excellence in clinical education.
The job duties and responsibilities of the DCE are:
Administrative- Provides leadership in planning, developing, coordinating, and ongoing management of the clinical education program.
- Secure and assess sufficient quality, quantity, and variety of clinical sites for student placement for clinical education experience, both integrated and full‑time experience, consistent with the goals of the curriculum.
- Coordinate, track, and maintain the currency of written agreements between RIT and clinical education sites.
- Manage and track clinical site agreements and compliance documentation, including Memorandums of Agreement (MOAs), Certificates of Insurance (COIs), immunization records, background checks, and Clinical Instructor (CI) credentials.
- Develop policies and procedures related to clinical education for both integrated and full‑time experiences.
- Gather and evaluate clinical placement feedback to inform program improvement.
- Teach the standard faculty load of 9 to 10 semester hours per academic semester, with a possible teaching load reduction negotiation with the DPT Program Director.
- Coordinate, organize, sequence, and integrate the clinical education program with the didactic curriculum, including intra‑professional and interprofessional learning activities.
- Lead assessment of clinical education by selecting and implementing appropriate assessment tool(s), and training CI in their effective use to meet the curricular needs and expected program outcomes.
- Provide clinical teaching, mentorship, and guidance to both students and clinical instructors.
- Ensure that supervision and feedback provided to students are appropriate for each clinical education experience.
- Establish a scholarly agenda consistent with RIT’s mission, CAPTE expectations, and professional contributions.
- Engage in scholarly activities and disseminate at least one peer‑reviewed product annually.
