Student Success Coach (Specialist II), Student Success & Advising Services
Advising is an essential component of MCC's holistic student support model that promotes equitable outcomes for students in college completion, transfer, and social and economic mobility. The Student Success Coach is a member of the Student Success and Strategic Initiatives team and is focused on the successful onboarding, retention, and goal attainment of students, with particular emphasis on those students within one of MCC's Schools.
In addition, the Student Success Coach is committed to promoting advisement and student engagement functions that help students develop academic and career goals, maintain timely progress through milestone courses, and complete programs of study. As the primary point of contact for students, the Student Success Coach is expected to maintain open, collaborative, and effective working relationships with students, staff, and faculty.
This position reports to the Associate Director of Student Success & Advising Services and requires working occasional evenings and Saturdays.
- Participate in the implementation of a college-wide academic advisement program to meet enrollment, retention, and student success goals of the College
- Develop a positive relationship with a caseload of students and work with them to identify and resolve barriers that may impede their academic success
- Support students as they transition to MCC, particularly first-generation students, students of color, and those from low-income backgrounds
- Effectively communicate information about programs of study, graduation requirements, progress toward degree completion, and resources available to students
- Assist students with pathway, career, and transfer exploration and planning; maintain a thorough working knowledge of academic programs and pathways within the assigned School, including career and transfer options
- Actively monitor and assess students' academic performance and progress to effectively provide targeted and proactive outreach, including implementing appropriate interventions and communicating regularly with the caseload of students via multiple methods of communication
- Collaborate with deans, department chairs, faculty, and staff, including other student success coaches, within the school to promote the academic and personal development of students
- Develop materials, prepare and conduct presentations, and coordinate events to increase student persistence, retention, and success
- Work with college systems and software to maintain and manage advising caseload activities and interventions, including responding to alerts and maintaining/reporting up-to-date documentation related to the caseload of students
- Provide support for onboarding, retention, and completion activities and interventions, including review of Satisfactory Academic Progress appeals and targeted follow-up, assessment of student compliance with Financial Aid Course Eligibility (FACE), fresh start application review, and connecting with students on caseload who have withdrawn or are considering withdrawing
- Report on persistence, retention, and completion objectives of assigned caseload
- Connect students with appropriate campus resources
- Interpret relevant college policies and procedures for students, faculty, and staff
- Participate in events outside of regular college hours, such as College open houses and advisement events
- Attend School/unit meetings as required
- Provide coverage for other student success coaches or faculty advisors as needed
- Collaboratively support Academic and Student Affairs initiatives
- Partner with Deans on relevant student success initiatives and School events
- Serve on committees and participate in meetings
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Associate Director or Director
