Assistant Professor – World Religions (Hindu Traditions Specialization)
Position Summary:
The Department of Religious Studies at Nazareth University in Rochester, NY invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin in Fall 2026. We seek applicants who employ ethnographic methods to the study of World Religions, with a specialization in Hindu traditions. Special consideration will be given to candidates whose work focuses on visual and performative arts.
Candidates with the ability to teach indigenous religions are also of interest.
The department seeks candidates committed to teaching excellence at a comprehensive institution that supports both liberal arts and professional programs. The Assistant Professor will teach the introductory course to world religions, upper‑division courses in Hindu traditions, upper‑division thematic courses across world religions, and will participate in events offered by The Hickey Center for Interfaith Studies and Dialogue. The teaching load is four courses per semester, generally with two or three preparations.
Essential Functions- Teaching – The Assistant Professor will teach courses as described above.
- Contributions to the University – New faculty orientation; mentor/mentee relationship; faculty/division/Assembly Day meetings;
Commencement. - Contributions to the Department – Meetings; research; office hours; faculty development workshops.
- Contributions to the Community – Activities in line with specialization and interests.
- PhD in Religious Studies or related field with a specialization in Hindu traditions, or with a PhD completed by time of appointment (August 2026).
- Ability to use computers, software, and related technologies effectively.

- Salary Range: $55,000 to $60,000.
