Prevention Education Specialist

$1000 Hiring Bonus

A Prevention Education Specialist is responsible for developing and delivering research‑based curriculum with fidelity, including youth and adult planned duplication sessions, trainings, and multi‑session psycho‑education groups regarding alcohol and drug use, chemical dependency and other related topics relevant to youth, families and those who work with youth. The role involves promoting/marketing the Center's prevention services and providing outreach via information dissemination on the full array of collaboration services provided by the Center for Youth.

The Specialist may also fulfil duties of the Social Learning Specialist in absence and may be cross‑trained in that position.

Overview

Full‑time, 12‑month position. Routine work hours overlap the school day 37.5 hours per week. Special events or projects may take place during early evenings occasionally.

Essential Functions and Examples of Duties
  • Implement needs assessment
  • Facilitate trainings including research‑based curriculum with fidelity and planned duplication sessions
  • Develop and maintain resource files and outlines
  • Complete accurate and timely records, service reports, evaluations and monthly QA reports
  • Design services based on curriculum and teacher needs assessments
  • Record keeping (pre/post testing)
  • Provide referral readiness support to teachers
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Participate in monthly individual and group supervision and weekly agency trainings
  • Outreach and information dissemination
  • Intake, needs assessment and service planning
  • Knowledge of school policies and procedures

Cultural Sensitivity

The Center delivers services to youth and families from many racial, ethnic, cultural, social and lifestyle groups. All staff are required to attend professional development trainings and continually enhance their understanding of cultural diversity. Staff are expected to respect and honor cultural and human diversity.

Qualifications

One to three years of directly related experience with proven platform skills and the ability to facilitate experiential groups. Minimum of a Bachelors Degree in an Education or Human Service related field. Advanced degrees or certifications preferred.

Required Candidate Criteria (Prior to Hire)
  • Authorization for the agency to obtain driving record information
  • Valid driver’s license with insurance acceptable to agency and regular access to a motor vehicle
  • Automobile insurance with minimum $100,000 per person/$300,000 per accident bodily injury and $50,000 property damage
Physical Requirements

Candidates must be capable of autonomous mobility to provide prevention services in multiple settings including the Center House, Center offices, schools and community locations throughout the county.

Salary and Benefits

Salary: $19 - $21 per hour
