JOB DESCRIPTION

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY

The School Psychologist works to ensure K-12 building support in Special Education and Response to Intervention, and works directly with building leadership, staff, and students to support ongoing success of.

Responsibilities
  • Assesses students’ functional capabilities and classroom/home environment for the purpose of determining a student’s functioning level and developing recommendations.
  • Coordinates with school staff to implement school-wide program development and program evaluation (PBIS, RtI) for the purpose of ensuring effective programs to assist children who experience social/emotional and academic difficulties.
  • Administers standardized and/or supplemental assessments for the purpose of measuring the academic, intellectual, social/emotional, or adaptive strengths and needs of children and/or determining eligibility for supports or services in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Compiles information from a variety of sources (e.g. administration, teachers, related service providers, nurse, parents, mental health agencies, outside supports) for the purpose of producing screening/evaluation/reporting to inform student programming and supports.
  • Assists staff in developing and applying student monitoring systems and designing academic and behavioral interventions.
  • Consults/models with teachers, other professionals, and outside providers for the purpose of promoting best practice related to supporting student success and Least Restrictive Environment, providing requested information, developing plans for services, or making recommendations.
  • Provides counseling for students to enhance student success in school.
  • Provides crisis support to the district as needed.
  • Assist in transition planning for students’ transition to different programming, grade-to-grade, and building-to-building, as well as long-term planning and supports post-graduation.
  • Promotes school policies and practices for the purpose of ensuring safety of all students by proactively increasing students’ positive coping mechanisms and problem-solving skills, thereby reducing incidents of school bullying or violence.
PROFESSIONAL GROWTH
  • Facilitates/participates in ongoing professional development opportunities connected to district, department, building, and professional goals.
  • Maintains professional certification required by New York State.
OTHER DUTIES
  • Prepare reports as required by the Directors of Student Services
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Valid certificate as a School Psychologist for the State of New York with required endorsement in area of assignment
  • Prior experience in the school setting preferred, but not required.
  • Successful New York State fingerprint clearance
AUTHORITY

The School Psychologist is directly responsible to the Directors of student services, building principals and district leadership.
