Speech Pathologist (Part Time) – Exploration Elementary Charter School for Science and Technology, Rochester, NY
Pay RangeBase pay: $26.00/hr – $50.00/hr
Position SummaryAt Exploration Elementary Charter School for Science and Technology, we believe every child deserves a voice—and the confidence to use it. The Speech‑Language Pathologist (SLP) plays a vital role in our mission to inspire inquiry, innovation, and excellence by developing students’ communication, language, and early literacy skills. This part‑time, school‑embedded position serves both students with and without IEPs, providing early intervention, enrichment, and targeted therapy.
The SLP collaborates closely with teachers, the Student Support Services Coordinator, and families to build a language‑rich environment where every child can thrive academically and socially.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide individual and small‑group therapy for K‑5 students focusing on articulation, phonological awareness, expressive/receptive language, vocabulary development, and social communication.
- Conduct comprehensive evaluations and develop IEP goals aligned with student needs and state/federal regulations.
- Deliver direct and consultative services in accordance with students’ IEPs.
- Collaborate with teachers, interventionists, and ENL staff to integrate communication supports into daily instruction and literacy routines.
- Participate in MTSS and CSE meetings to align interventions, ensure compliance, and share progress.
- Communicate regularly with families to support home‑school language growth and provide resources.
- Maintain accurate documentation, progress reports, and service logs in compliance with IDEA and NYSED requirements.
- Utilize Google Workspace and digital tools for documentation, calendaring, and communication.
- Model and recommend strategies that promote oral language, listening comprehension, and expressive communication across content areas.
- Provide consultation and professional learning for staff on speech and language development and its impact on learning.
- Contribute to a positive, inclusive school culture that values diversity, collaboration, and innovation.
Schedule:
2–3 days per week (flexible scheduling available). Caseload: up to 25 students receiving direct or consultative services, with adjustments based on student needs. Collaboration and documentation time are included within weekly hours. Occasional attendance at after‑school meetings or family events.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Deep knowledge of communication and language development, including articulation, fluency, voice, and pragmatic language.
- Understanding of NYS and federal special education regulations and IEP service delivery.
- Familiarity with Culturally Responsive and Sustaining Education (CRSE) practices and their application in therapy and instruction.
- Strong data‑analysis skills to assess progress and adjust interventions.
- Effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Ability to manage a flexible, part‑time schedule while maintaining accurate records.
- Commitment to professional ethics, confidentiality, and continuous growth.
- Fingerprint clearance from NYS Department of Education (required).
- Ability to work flexible hours for family events and conferences.
- Proficiency with educational technology (interactive whiteboards, laptops, digital platforms).
Master’s Degree in Speech‑Language Pathology, Communication Disorders, or a related field (preferred).
CertificationValid New York State License as a Speech‑Language Pathologist (preferred).
Experience- Experience in an elementary or urban school setting (preferred).
- Experience integrating language goals into classroom‑based, inquiry‑driven, or STEM instruction (strongly desired).
- Experience serving diverse learners, including English Language Learners and students with IEPs.
