Position Description The City of Rochester invites applications for:
Grounds Attendant
Parks, Forestry, and Golf (Seasonal Opportunity).

This is a temporary/seasonal position that assists with the day-to-day care and maintenance of various City properties including park grounds, sports playing fields, golf courses, public plazas, street scapes, trees, urban & naturalized landscapes, roadway medians, and roadway right-of-ways. Duties include mowing, trimming, weeding and raking. This position must be able to interact with the public in a professional, courteous, and helpful manner.
WorkSchedule
Positions are available in the Parks, Forestry and Golf Divisions from late March through October. Work schedules vary and include weekends and early morning/evening hours.
Pay Rate$15.76 to $18.39 per hour, depending on qualifications/experience

Duties And ResponsibilitiesThe work below is representative of the scope of work performed within this job classification. Individual job duties will vary based on work assignment.
- Perform grounds maintenance duties including clearing debris, mowing, trimming, weeding, raking, and watering.
- Perform landscape creation duties including grading, site preparation, seeding, sodding, and planting.
- Empty trash containers, clean restrooms and remove animal waste at outdoor facilities.
- Maintain and clean all equipment used on a daily basis.
- Assist with cleaning, repairing and/or maintaining departmental facilities.
- Assist with the set-up/clean-up of seasonal activities and events.
- Perform other duties as assigned or necessary.
- At least 16 years of age
- Valid driver's license required dependent on assignment/location
- High School diploma or the equivalent (GED)
- Experience performing grounds or landscape maintenance
- Experience operating and/or maintaining equipment similar to that used in grounds or landscape maintenance

In consideration of the overall amount of physical effort required to perform this position, the work is best described as Medium Work:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Physical demands that may be required continuously (2/3 or more of the time), frequently (1/3 to 2/3 of the time), and occasionally (up to 1/3 of the time) are noted below:

Sensory requirements necessary in the performance of the essential functions of this position include: sight, hearing, touch
Environmental conditions that may exist in the performance of the essential functions of this job include:
- Extreme heat (above 100 degrees)
- Noise (need to shout in order to be heard)
- Vibration (exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body)
- Exposure to dust/gas/fumes/steam/chemicals
- Work outdoors (no effective protection from weather)
- Walk on uneven ground (gravel, rocks, mounds, construction sites)
- Working around moving machinery (fork-lifts, tractors, mowers)
- Protective equipment required (respirator, mask, earplugs, gloves, eyewear, etc.)
