C-sections are performed in the OR. The unit follows AWHONN guidelines for staffing ratios: 1:1 for inductions and 1:2 for postpartum. Common diagnoses include Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, Hyperbilirubinemia, and Preterm Labor.
RNs are required to titrate drips. Common titratable drips include OB-Pitocin and ICU-Cardiac drips, Heparin, and sedation drugs. A charge nurse is present on each shift and may take an assignment if necessary, but typically does not. OB/Neonatologist is on call, but not in-house 24/7. Anesthesia is also on call. Respiratory Therapy equipment includes vents, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow, and Airvo.
RNs are responsible for monitoring tele and are required to read telemetry strips, with support available from the ICU and charge nurses. The telemetry monitors are made by Phillips. There is one nurse aide on the unit from 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The unit uses an EFM system by GE. Shifts are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. Nurses are required to work every third weekend and holiday.

Attributes that help make a nurse successful in this unit include communication, motivation, and approachability. RTO must be provided upfront, and additional requests will not be approved.
