We are seeking a dedicated and hands-on intern to gain valuable experience in property maintenance within the property management industry. This internship provides the opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals while maintaining properties across Minnesota. You will develop essential skills and gain exposure to managing multi-million-dollar assets through a variety of general, preventative, emergency, and routine maintenance tasks.
Regular
Schedule:
Monday – Friday, 30-40 hours per week (based on business needs)
Hourly Pay Rate: $20.00 per hour
Duration: May 2026 – August 2026
Location: Minnesota – Twin Cities and surrounding area; and Rochester, MN
Key Responsibilities
- Work Orders:
Complete work orders at assigned Velair properties, responding to maintenance requests and repairs for resident apartments, buildings, and exterior grounds. - Property Maintenance:
Maintain properties to Velair standards by performing daily cleaning, trash collection, and preventative maintenance. - Equipment & Systems Care:
Assist with the care and service of building systems and equipment and familiarize yourself with operation and maintenance manuals for various facility equipment. - Team
Collaboration:
Work closely with the maintenance team, supervisors, and property managers to ensure the smooth operation of all property maintenance functions. - Adherence to Standards:
Follow safety protocols, adhere to Fair Housing Laws, and perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
To succeed in this internship, you should have the following qualifications:
- Education:
High School diploma or GED (Additional education is desirable). - Skills:
Excellent customer service skills, effective communication abilities (both oral and written), and the ability to read and comprehend facility system drawings and maintenance manuals. - Technical Ability:
Knowledge of hand tools, portable power tools, and trade tools, as well as the ability to perform basic math for maintenance calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division). - Physical Ability:
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work from ladders and elevated platforms, and perform tasks in various environmental conditions (indoors and outdoors). - Travel:
Must be willing to travel between Velair properties as needed. - Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license and insurance is required to travel between locations.
- Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds on occasion.
- Ability to walk steps, climb ladders, and reach above your head.
- Ability to work at heights (such as inspecting roofs or high job sites) and maintain balance in these environments.
- Majority of work is indoors, but occasional outdoor work is required, with the ability to handle various weather conditions and uneven terrain.
