Mental Health Practitioner – Early Childhood Focused

Job Summary

Mental Health Practitioners (MHP) provide home and community‑based skills services to children, adults, and families with mental health concerns to improve their basic functioning under the license of a qualified mental health professional (QMHP).

Supervisory Responsibilities

Mental Health Practitioners (MHP) are not responsible for the supervision of other employees. They are expected to coordinate services with other Fernbrook employees who share caseloads.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide mental health skills‑based services to children, adults, and families. Modalities include individual, family, and group skills.
  • Meet productivity requirement of clinical services with families/groups, as well as weekly billable productivity.
  • Utilize various effective strategies to respond to client needs in a respectful and professional manner.
  • Complete all documentation according to content and quality standards.
  • Actively seek out supervisory consultation and direction as needed.
  • Regularly attend and engage in a way that meets your needs in staff meetings.
  • Complete 30 hours of continuing education related to mental health every two years.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with other Fernbrook team members and outside service providers.
  • Communicate and reflect Fernbrook Family Center’s mission internally and externally.
  • Comply with agency policies and procedures.
  • Other duties assigned.

Physical Demands
  • Prolonged periods sitting, listening, and observing or working on a computer.
  • Physical health and stamina to work on a consistent basis with children and adults who have varying needs.
  • Occasional situations may occur where staff need to be able to lift up to 15 pounds.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
  • Expected hours of work are flexible and generally occur between 7:00am – 7:00pm.
  • Expected to travel to and from a client’s home, community settings, Fernbrook offices, and other locations.
  • Salary staff are required to work 40‑43 hours per week, however hours may be outside of this range in order to complete projects and responsibilities to meet client needs.
  • Hourly staff are able to work up to 40 hours per week. Hours over 40 will need to be preapproved for overtime by supervisor.
Education and Experience
  • Positions that require community based client contact must have reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, valid automobile insurance, and acceptable driving record.
  • Must pass criminal background check based on agency and Department of Human Services requirements.
  • Must be qualified in at least one of the following ways:
    • Meets current Minnesota Statute requirements to qualify as a Mental Health Practitioner or
    • Meets current Minnesota Statute requirements to qualify as a Clinical Trainee.
Preferred

Education and Experience
  • Experience working with children, adults, and families.
  • Bilingual.
