In this role employees will have direct patient contact. The primary function is to transport patients, visitors and patient related items throughout the Mayo Clinic campus in a safe and efficient manner. Employees will have frequent interaction with nurses, radiology techs, desk staff, door attendants and others. Employees will receive primary work assignments via an iPhone and pager.
Employee must be able to function independently and as a team member with minimal supervision or direction and possess knowledge with the use of a smart phone. Proper input and management of transport requests may be required via computers and/or working with dispatch staff via telephone. Employees in this role will stand and/or walk 10-12 miles per 8-hour shift and frequently push/pull patients up to 200 pounds and occasionally up to or exceeding 350 pounds.
Employees must demonstrate proficiency in the safe operation of multiple types of motorized patient transport equipment which require exceptional fine motor skills. In addition, employees must have full use of hands, ability to perform repetitive wrist and elbow movements, repetitive foot motions and trunk rotate/twist/reach actions. Employees are required to disinfect equipment after each patient use and request maintenance as needed through the appropriate channels.
Performing wheelchair roundups to General Service storage locations or designated floors is a daily task. Employees will transport patients who require the use of oxygen, intravenous pumps, wound vacs and/or other special equipment, as well as assist patients in and out
