Duties
Autonomously performs complex diagnostic ultrasound imaging procedures for patients of all ages, under the supervision of qualified physicians for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.

Job Responsibilities- Diagnostic sonographers take the initiative to confirm the imaging orders for completeness and accuracy.
- Reviews patient history and supporting clinical data for medical necessity.
- Responsible for contacting the ordering physician if an inadequate reason for test is supplied.
- Sonographers utilize advanced knowledge to perform diagnostic procedures (inpatient and outpatient settings, including portable and O.R. examinations) by producing, assessing, and evaluating ultrasound images and related data.
- Sonographers are required to exercise independent judgment in the interpretation and analysis of exams and provide a preliminary diagnosis of the technical findings to the physician.
- Works independently with minimal supervision.
- Requires ability to think critically, make judgments, and proceed with action accordingly.
- Sonographers are highly encouraged to be involved in professional development.
- This may include presenting cases at conferences, creating posters, and/or actively participating in department committees.
- Incumbents hired into the role prior to February 15, 2018, are required to meet the previous requirements of graduating from an accredited sonography program.
- Must have strong communication skills involving interactions with patients, physicians, and other medical professionals.
- Ability to communicate preliminary findings to the Radiologists and Residents.
- Requires standing, walking, and pushing equipment for long periods of time.
- Requires the ability to lift or assist others with lifting patients of differing weight by mechanical lifting devices.
- Requires the ability to use isolation precaution techniques including using personal protective equipment.
- Knowledge of Non-Imaging Vascular (NIV), Musculoskeletal Ultrasound (MSK), Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) studies, Prostate Ultrasound, and/or CT/PET/MRI fusion is advantageous.
Skills needed - OB/MFM
Education- Have an Associate's degree if a graduate of a non-CAAHEP-accredited sonography program.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Must be ARDMS registered (or registry eligible) in the areas of abdomen, obstetrics/gynecology (OB/GYN) and vascular technology (RVT).
- Registry-eligible candidates must become ARDMS registered in abdomen within 6 months of Mayo employment.
- Registry eligible candidates must become ARDMS registered in obstetrics/gynecology (OB/GYN) within 12 months of Mayo employment.
- Registry-eligible candidates must become ARDMS registered in vascular technology (RVT) within 18 months of Mayo employment.
- CPR/BLS Certified or obtained within 90 days of employment.
