Histology Technician (HT) / Histotechnologist (HTL) – Anatomic Pathology Core

• Accession and processing of surgical, autopsy, and research tissue specimens.
• Preparation of hematoxylin‑eosin, routine, special, and immunohistochemical stains.
• Execution of microtomy, paraffin embedding, frozen section, and plastic embedding techniques.
• Quality control and documentation of slide preparation.
• Training and mentoring of laboratory students and new staff.
• Maintenance and troubleshooting of histology equipment.
• Collaboration with pathologists, researchers, and laboratory team to ensure accurate diagnoses and scientific advancement.

• For Histology Technician (HT):
  • Associate degree in biology, chemistry, or medical laboratory technology.
  • Minimum 12 semester credit hours in chemistry and biology (6 each).
  • Histology Technician certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) by start date.
• For Histotechnologist (HTL):
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • ASCP certification as a Histotechnologist by start date.
• Preferred:
  Graduate of a NAACLS‑accredited program or Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences Histology Technician Program.
• Proficiency in specimen scheduling and willingness to work nights, weekends, holidays, and on‑call shifts.
• Documented ongoing maintenance of ASCP certification for certifications obtained after January 1 2004.

Hourly rate ranges:

• Histology Technician: $26.00 – $38.55
• Histotechnologist: $31.79 – $47.71

Part‑time supplemental role with flexible scheduling; possible weekend and holiday work.
