Position Overview

The Surgical Assistant (SA) plays a crucial role in assisting surgeons and physicians during surgical procedures. The SA is well-versed in human surgical anatomy and has honed surgical skills such as suturing, proper use of surgical instruments, and positioning of surgical patients. A strong understanding of aseptic technique principles, along with perioperative policies and procedural guidelines, is essential. The SA should be knowledgeable about various surgical procedures and adept at anticipating the needs of the surgeon.

Work Environment

This position is based in the vibrant city of Rochester, offering a unique opportunity to work in a multi-specialty perioperative setting. The SA will gain exposure to a wide range of surgeries, including:

Qualifications And Skills

• Certified as a Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) through the NCCSA or as a Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) through the NBSTSA, preferred.
• Adaptability to unpredictable situations within the perioperative setting.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging with a variety of people in a direct, empathetic, and articulate manner.
• Patient-centered and customer-focused communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as a team member with minimal supervision.

Education And Experience

• Graduate of a Surgical Assistant Program with relevant operating room experience within the past 3 years.

Licensure/Certification

• Maintains current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association or equivalent.
• Required for travelers by the start date - BLS and CSFA or CSA.
