Overview
At Western Digital, our vision is to power global innovation and push the boundaries of technology to make what you thought was once impossible, possible. Western Digital is a company of problem solvers, with a history of enabling breakthroughs such as putting a man on the moon and capturing the first image of a black hole. We offer technologies, HDDs, and platforms under Western Digital, WD, , and San Disk Professional brands.
We partner with major organizations to support safe, connected cities, data centers, and AI storage needs. Today’s exceptional challenges require your unique skills. Together, we can build the future of data storage.
You'll validate cutting-edge mixed-signal chips that make hard disk drives work—how data is written and read. Work on next-gen Preamp technology, solve hardware challenges, and grow with guidance from junior and senior engineers.
Responsibilities- Characterize next-gen Preamp chips using high-frequency RF test gear (Network Analyzers, Spectrum Analyzers)
- Automate testing workflows – write/modify TCL scripts to speed up validation cycles
- Debug signal integrity issues on prototype boards; run failure analysis and publish findings
- Partner with chip designers and vendors – test theories, verify fixes, optimize HDD performance
- Build test plans from scratch – design experiments, collect data, document what works (and what doesnl)
First 90 days: Ramp on Preamp architecture → Support component testing → Ship your first automated test scripts
Qualifications- Currently pursuing or recently completed a MS degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Right to work in the US without requiring Western Digital to sponsor immigration at any point in the future.
- Solid analog fundamentals – you understand RF design, transmission lines, and signal integrity
- Hands-on lab skills – comfortable with oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and high-speed measurement setups
- Coding for automation – can write test scripts (TCL preferred, but adaptable)
- Verilog/System Verilog, VHDL, or FPGA experience
- PCB layout tools (KiCAD, Altium, etc.)
- HDD architecture knowledge
- Model Sim simulation experience
