Position Overview
IGDI Lab through the Department of Educational Psychology in the College of Education and Human Development, at the University of Minnesota, has an occasional part‑time, temporary or casual employee need for a nationwide study.
Positions are available throughout the U.S. in locations where we have study partnerships. Confirmed sites include Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN;
Atlanta, GA; and Salt Lake City, UT. Additional openings are anticipated in California, Massachusetts, and other states.
Hourly temporary casual with hours that ebb and flow with the needs of data collection for the IGDI Lab. Focus on assessment and data‑based decision‑making within a multi‑tiered system of support for English‑ and Spanish‑speaking children aged 3‑6.
We are hiring for the I‑SPEAK project (Interactive Storybook Platform for the Equitable Assessment of Knowledge). The assessment leverages storytelling for a culturally and linguistically responsive experience; data collectors may administer in English, Spanish or both.
Data collection requires training on assessments and interacting with young children. Data collectors will travel to early childhood classrooms, use iPads, achieve 90% fidelity before testing, and report updates to the research team.
Position is in‑person. Limited to a maximum of 67 days in a calendar year; can work 14 or fewer hours per week. Hourly pay; no retirement plans, health insurance, vacation, or sick leave for temporary/casual employees.
Job Responsibilities- Travel to schools and childcare sites and collect assessment data with preschool children.
- Document all assessment scores.
- Transfer data each session by recording progress in a tracking spreadsheet.
Required Qualifications
- Some high school or 2 years work experience.
- Experience working with preschool and/or elementary‑age children.
- Ability to communicate with supervisor and team members over email, phone, and/or video conference.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with people from a variety of communities, backgrounds, and identities.
- Reliable transportation for travel to school and childcare sites.
- Ability to work during school hours (short shifts generally between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. M‑F).
Preferred Qualifications
- Lived experiences that align with project goals.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Initiative and self‑direction.
- Experience in classroom settings and/or working with children one‑on‑one.
- Experience with data collection.
- Excellent data entry skills.
- Fluency in Spanish.
The Department of Educational Psychology provides training in the cognitive, emotional, and social learning processes across the lifespan, supporting professional practice in schools and universities.
Pay and BenefitsPay Range: $20–$26 per hour, dependent on experience and internal equity.
Time Appointment: Part‑time.
