CVICU Registered Nurses (RNs) specialize in cardiac care within an adult critical care unit. Key responsibilities include intense monitoring of patients, caring for those requiring intra‑aortic balloon pumps, external temporary pacemakers, and continuous renal replacement therapy. RNs work closely with the Cardiac Catheterization Lab to assist in rapid diagnosis and treatment of patients needing percutaneous coronary intervention for ST elevation myocardial infarction, and respond to all cardiac and respiratory arrests in the hospital.
They also provide emotional support to patients and families and educate them on post‑treatment home care needs.
