Temp Summer Pre-K Teacher

$22.14/hr.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education or Child Development.
  • Ability to interact positively with school/parents and community and to work with limited supervision.
  • Certification in CPR and First Aid.
  • Capable of bending, lifting, and doing overhead work, as well as being physically able to participate with young children.
  • Regular, reliable and punctual attendance required.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Supervisor of Preschool Programs may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Director of Early Childhood

SUPERVISES
:
Pre-K Teacher Assistant

JOB GOAL: To provide a nurturing, safe environment that provides a developmentally appropriate learning experience for preschoolers.

To facilitate knowledge and/or skills in the following areas:

  • Language & Literacy
  • Social & Emotional
  • Cognitive
  • Creative
  • Physical (Gross and fine motor, including outdoor play)
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Plans for and actively encourages participation in activities and manipulation of materials that contribute to the developmental domains listed above.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of current best practices in early childhood education.
  • Prepares weekly lesson plans that encompass all areas of the curriculum.
  • Ensures that licensing procedures are followed to safeguard health and safety of children, including hand washing, appropriate sanitary measures, playground safety rules, and rules regarding the useof supplies and equipment.
  • Is aware of the number of children in attendance at all times and counts them regularly to ensure they are accounted for.
  • Greets parents and develops a rapport with them offering positive feedback about their children when appropriate.
  • Maintains current, orderly files of required records according to licensing specifications for information and location of record keeping.
  • Consults with Supervisor of Preschool Programs to discuss issues and to establish appropriate strategies for dealing with child behavior.
  • Builds a positive working relationship with school staff.
  • Remains knowledgeable about information, forms, and emergency procedures; checks identification of unknown persons picking up children from the program.
  • Maintains current written plans and diagrams for use in case of fire, tornado, or other emergencies.
  • Represents Rochester Community Schools as a positive ambassador.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Preschool Programs.
