  • Ability to hold poses for extended periods of time.
  • Punctual, professional, and respectful of the classroom environment.
  • Reliable and able to follow direction.

  • Previous figure modeling or performance experience.
  • Background in dance, yoga, or other movement disciplines.
Position Purpose

The Oakland University Department of Art, Art History and Design is seeking reliable, professional figure models to pose for undergraduate drawing and painting classes. Figure modeling is an essential component of our studio art curriculum, providing students with the opportunity to study and understand the human form through observation. Models work varying shifts, as scheduled by the Program Director / Model Coordinator.

Job Duties
  • Pose for Art Instruction:
    Model in a classroom setting for drawing, painting, and/or sculpture classes.
  • Support students’ anatomical studies through live figure observation.
  • Maintain a Variety of Poses:
    Hold short (gesture) and long (sustained) poses as directed by the instructor.
  • Change poses smoothly and safely, based on the needs of the session.
  • Maintain Stillness and Focus:
    Remain as still as possible during poses, especially for longer durations (up to 25–30 minutes).
  • Exhibit calm focus and physical discipline to help students accurately observe the figure.
  • Follow Instructor Direction:
    Work collaboratively with faculty to achieve specific teaching goals.
  • Be responsive to pose adjustments or special requests during the session.
  • Respect the Classroom Environment:
    Maintain professionalism and discretion at all times. Interact respectfully with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Arrive Punctually and Prepared:
    Show up on time and ready to begin modeling at the scheduled start time. Bring any personal items needed for comfort (robe, towel, water, etc.).
