About

The Role

As a Maintenance Technician at Zekelman Industries, you will play a key role in ensuring the safe repair, rebuild, and maintenance of tube mill production equipment. This position focuses on maximizing equipment quality, uptime, rate, and yield to support efficient and reliable production operations. The role requires strong electrical aptitude, excellent troubleshooting skills, and the ability to diagnose and resolve both electrical and mechanical issues, providing a direct impact on productivity and operational excellence.

You will collaborate with supervisors, production teams, and maintenance staff, ensuring that all repairs and maintenance work meet safety, quality, and performance standards. This is a full‑time, on‑site position located in Rochelle, IL.

What You’ll Do
  • Perform electrical maintenance on production equipment, ensuring compliance with all Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and safety procedures.
  • Inspect machinery to confirm guards and safety devices are in place before returning equipment to service.
  • Monitor and maintain appropriate inventory levels of parts, equipment, and supplies; place orders and verify deliveries as needed.
  • Utilize computerized maintenance management systems to document inspections, repairs, and work orders.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, manuals, and schematics to accurately diagnose and repair issues.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical, mechanical, and quality concerns, escalating issues to supervision when necessary.
  • Perform breakdown repairs, preventive maintenance, and changeovers to minimize downtime and ensure efficient operations.
  • Identify and report safety, quality, and production issues when unable to correct independently.
  • Observe equipment in operation, using precision instruments to diagnose mechanical problems.
  • Fabricate or modify parts as needed using machine shop tools and equipment.
  • Operate powered industrial trucks, overhead cranes, and portable cranes as required.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment in compliance with company and OSHA standards.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and participate in problem‑solving efforts.
  • Lead and promote healthy and safe work practices as required by regulatory agencies and company policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Who You Are
  • 5+ years of experience in a heavy manufacturing or industrial maintenance environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; apprenticeship, journeyman certification, military training, or equivalent mechanical/electrical education preferred.
  • Proficient with hand and power tools, precision measuring devices, and interpreting technical drawings and schematics.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of electrical systems and PLCs.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills in a safety‑focused, fast‑paced setting.
  • Effective communication skills in English and ability to perform basic math calculations.
  • Capable of passing job‑related testing, physical examination, and drug screening.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, with a commitment to supporting team and production goals.
  • Physical requirements:

    Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand or walk for extended periods, and perform bending, twisting, kneeling, and other physical activities as required.

Compensation & Benefits

Below is the expected base pay range for this position.
Base Pay: $30.50 per hour

Additional Compensation
  • Production Incentive Bonus
  • Performance‑based yearly merit increase
