Overview
The Human Resources & Accounting Administrator supports both HR and accounting functions, serving as a key resource for employees and management. This role is responsible for recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, payroll processing, and general accounting support, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and reconciliations. The position also assists with HR systems optimization, audits, and special projects as needed.
Key ResponsibilitiesHuman Resources
- Support recruitment efforts by partnering with managers to identify staffing needs and coordinating the hiring process.
- Lead onboarding activities and support employee development initiatives.
- Assist with employee relations matters and help ensure consistent application of company policies.
- Administer employee benefits programs and respond to employee inquiries related to payroll, health and dental benefits, 401(k), PTO, FMLA, and general personnel matters.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and internal policies.
- Process payroll using Paylocity and maintain accurate employee records.
Accounting
- Process and distribute monthly accounts receivable statements, apply payments accurately, and monitor AR balances.
- Oversee ACH payments for grain purchases, vendors, and outside carriers on a weekly and as-needed basis.
- Perform vendor account reconciliations and coordinate annual 1099 reporting.
- Prepare account reconciliations and assist with month-end journal entries.
- Support annual audits conducted by the Illinois Department of Agriculture and external accounting firms.
General
- Assist the Controller with projects, reporting, and administrative support as needed.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- High level of empathy and professionalism when supporting diverse employee needs.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and highly reliable.
- Proficiency with HRIS platforms and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Formal education preferred but not required in lieu of relevant experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of human resources experience.
- At least 2 years of accounting experience.
