Background
Hough Green Garage is a market leader in the provision of 24‑hour Breakdown & Recovery Services, having been established for over four decades. We operate 24‑hour, 365‑day a year for Local Authorities, Blue Light Emergency Services, Motoring Organisations and companies nationally.
OpportunityDue to increased work volumes and new contracts, we are looking to recruit additional Class 2 Vehicle Recovery Drivers. This varied, fast‑paced role requires a “can‑do” attitude, resilience under pressure, and the ability to work independently while delivering a fast, efficient, and professional service to our customers.
Key Responsibilities- Attend breakdowns and accidents on motorways and main roads within our operational area.
- Work a 4 on 2 off shift pattern, 12‑hour shifts (day and night). Day shifts involve on‑call requirements discussed at interview.
- Daily vehicle checks / walk‑arounds at shift start.
- Weekly vehicle inventory checks.
- General housekeeping of vehicles and depots/yards.
- Ensure safe removal / delivery of all customer vehicles.
- Complete job requirements on company issued PDA’s.
- Assist office staff with moving cars in/out of the yard when required.
- Full valid UK driving licence (Category C1 or higher).
- Proven experience as a 7.5 ton / Class 2 driver (vehicle recovery experience a distinct advantage but not essential).
- DCPC and Digital Drivers Card.
- Thrives under pressure; flexible with shifts.
- Excellent communication skills for face‑to‑face customer interactions, especially under stressful circumstances.
- Desire to go the extra mile; keen eye for detail.
- Clean driving record and able to pass police vetting.
- Excellent geographical knowledge of the local area.
- Basic mechanical knowledge.
- Self‑motivated, proactive, able to resolve challenging situations independently.
- Competitive hourly rate up to £15.00 per hour, dependent on shift and experience.
- Call‑out and overtime pay.
- Permanent role with full IVR accreditation training and career progression opportunities.
- Full training provided, including IVR qualification.
- Personal Protective Equipment and uniform supplied.
- Flexible shift options (day/night).
