Domestic Assistant
As a Domestic Assistant you will be responsible for keeping wards, offices and public areas clean to a high standard. You will work as part of the domestic service team and the wider hospital community.
Working Hours16.30 – 20.00 – 17.5 hours Monday to Friday. Must be flexible to cover Bank Holidays as required.
Entry RequirementsThere is no formal entry requirement to become a domestic assistant; however you may be required to complete NVQ Level 1 in cleaning.
TrainingWhen you start as a domestic you will attend an induction and all relevant training will be given.
Key Skills- Good communication skills, caring and sensitive nature.
- Physical fitness and knowledge of proper lifting and manual handling techniques.
- Cleaning patients’ or service users’ rooms/wards.
- Cleaning toilets and bathroom areas.
- Cleaning communal areas such as lounges, dining areas and corridors.
- Cleaning utility rooms.
- Carrying out deep‑cleaning operations in certain areas.
- Using appropriate cleaning equipment, e.g. vacuum cleaner, mop or electric floor cleaner.
- Using cleaning products and chemicals safely and effectively.
- Keeping up to date with safety procedures, including fire procedures and escape routes, and undertaking appropriate workplace training.
- Carrying out specific cleaning and related duties according to set procedures and standards.
- Ensuring infection control policies are adhered to.
- Working as part of a team, using initiative to prioritise and organise daily duties while maintaining a professional approach.
- Ensuring the cleanliness of clinical and non‑clinical areas to the required standard.
