Meter Supervisor - Industry: Electric Utility
The AMI Technician is responsible for providing both office and field support for the Cooperative's automated meter infrastructure (AMI) system. This role involves programming, installing, testing, and repairing meters and metering systems used by NEC. The technician will implement a comprehensive metering maintenance program to ensure precise measurement of power usage, with accurate records submitted to relevant departments. Adherence to all established safety protocols and practices is expected.
Additionally, the technician will protect and enhance the reputation and public image of the Cooperative and its staff. Professional interaction with members and the general public in a courteous and friendly manner regarding NEC activities is required.
- Install and exchange single phase meters. Collect GPS data, program coordinates into the meters. Assure meter communication with base stations. Verify meter phasing
- Provide accurate meter data on schedule to ensure accurate billing records.
- Disconnect meters due to non-payment of electric bills or as requested / required, on or ahead of schedule to minimize loss of revenue.
- Inspect meter sites. Verify self-contained metering, assist with verification of CT metering and primary metering points, meter sockets, and disconnect idle services.
- Responsible for analyzing AMI meter communications and accuracy through the use of radio test equipment, applying advanced critical thinking skills
- High school diploma or equivalent education and experience
- Two years of experience working with electric/electronic circuitry, components and diagrams
- Must demonstrate aptitude and willingness to learn AMI.
- After three months introductory period, with Metering Supervisor's recommendation, enroll or continue in the Northwest Lineman College (NLC) training program, attend all assigned classes, and pass exams as required. Each NLC level must be finished within twenty months of starting, and one of ten tests per level must be passed every sixty days.
- Complete Tech 1 Job Competency/Demonstration requirements within six months of hire.
- Possession of meter certifications and any completed relevant training for documentation verification purposes.
- Familiarity with SCADA systems and strong troubleshooting abilities, along with an organized approach to problem solving, are also valuable assets.
- Ability to learn to use customer information systems and utility specific work and service order applications.
- High school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience working with electric/electronic circuitry, components and diagrams, or an combination of education and experience.
Must be capable of operating NEC vehicles, have an acceptable driving record and must possess a valid Drivers License at the time of application.
