- Receive eight weeks of formalized pre-service security training at the Illinois Corrections Training Academy, including firearms training as required.
- Receive on-the-job training under the immediate supervision of a qualified correctional employee.
- Assist in operations across multiple areas (lines, yard, dining room, housing units, facility buildings, perimeter, armory, counting, shakedowns, movement, etc.).
- Travel using state-issued vehicle to complete assignments.
- Attend one week of facility orientation.
- Receive formal training in housing unit work, report writing, out-count work, yard work, assignments and chain-of-command, security buildings, disciplinary procedures, and related duties.
- Perform other duties as required within the scope of the listed responsibilities.
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of high school.
- Requires elementary knowledge of resident behavior problems.
- Requires completion of a pre-service security training course during the trainee period.
- Requires successful completion of firearms training and the ability to use firearms during the trainee period.
- Requires a valid driver's license and ability to travel statewide.
- Must be eligible to acquire and possess a firearm and possess or be able to obtain and maintain a valid FOID card.
- Must utilize digital tools and processes as part of dept. operations.
- Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check and a drug screen.
- Applicants must abide by vaccine and/or other medical standards as set by the employer.
Work hours vary: 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m., 11:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. Shifts and days off will vary. Headquarter:
