Position: Network Services Tech / Broadband Communications / North Roanoke, VA

This is a contract-to-direct opportunity for a Field Installation Technician supporting a regional broadband services provider. The role focuses on installing and maintaining fiber and copper network services for residential and small business customers, including FTTH and in‑home Wi‑Fi. Position is full‑time and field‑based.

This is a hands‑on role for someone who enjoys working independently while still being part of a team. You will be trained and supported by experienced technicians, with the chance to build real‑world skills in fiber optics, splicing, and broadband technologies. If you like problem‑solving in the field, working directly with customers, and learning new technology, this role offers long‑term growth potential and steady technical experience.

Required

Skills & Experience
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate company vehicles
  • Basic understanding of fiber optic handling and low‑voltage wiring
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Ability to climb ladders and poles and work at heights
  • Ability to distinguish colors (not color blind)
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, holidays, and on‑call rotation
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work independently
  • Ability to lift over 100 pounds as needed
  • Willingness to travel for training when required
Desired Skills & Experience
  • Knowledge of FTTH, DSL, and broadband technologies
  • Understanding of 802.11 wireless networks
  • Experience with copper cable troubleshooting and repair
  • Familiarity with OTDR, TDR, and related test equipment
  • Associate degree in a technical field or equivalent experience
What You Will Be Doing
  • Install and repair telephone, video, broadband, and special services over fiber and copper plant
  • Install fiber and copper enclosures and inside wiring to specifications
  • Troubleshoot and locate network issues efficiently

    Conduct fiber splicing using fusion and mechanical splicing equipment
  • Test and document network performance using industry tools
  • Work with internal teams and contractors as needed
  • Maintain tools, vehicles, and materials in an organized and safe manner
  • 40% Fiber optics and splicing
  • 30% Copper plant and inside wiring
  • 20% Wi‑Fi and customer premise equipment
  • 10% Testing and documentation
