Description
Under general supervision of a Maintenance Shop superintendent, a Mechanic will perform a variety of manual or semiskilled tasks to maintain Dump Trucks, Service Trucks, and/or Heavy Equipment such as road building equipment.
Responsibilities- Cleans, greases and assists in setting up, adjusting, repairing various types of off road/on road equipment and motor vehicles.
- May operate any equipment on a temporary basis for trouble shooting and adjustment analysis. Manipulate hand and power tools to perform maintenance adjustments.
- Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure they are in proper operating condition.
- Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists.
- Adjust and reline brakes, align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment.
- Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices.
- Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery.
- Test drive trucks to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure they are working properly.
- Raise trucks, buses, and heavy parts or equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists.
- Attach test instruments to equipment and read dials and gauges to diagnose malfunctions.
- Rebuild gas or diesel engines.
- Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications.
- Process written and oral analysis reports for recordkeeping.
- Work independently in the absence of supervision and maintain a cooperative working relationship with coworkers and the general public.
- The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
- The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.
- The ability to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
- The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.
- The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.
- The ability to detect or tell the differences between sounds that vary in pitch and loudness.
- The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs.
- High School diploma or GED
- Must possess a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record
- CDL preferred or willingness to obtain
