The City of Roanoke is seeking a Facilities Trade Worker to serve with the HVAC team in the General Services and Sustainability. The position will assist licensed HVAC Technician/s in repairing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and installing all types of commercial HVAC systems and required to maintain ice machines. Must be able to climb/work on ladders/lifts to reach high ceilings or walls. Required to perform preventative maintenance on all types of HVAC mechanical equipment.
May also help to perform essential duties in mechanical, structural, HVAC or welding.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Performs work in multiple skilled trades (mechanical, structural, HVAC).
- Performs semi-skilled work assisting in the repair and maintenance of buildings and equipment.
- Performs unskilled manual work in support of plumbing projects.
- Performs preventative maintenance and assists a skilled carpenter.
- Helps fabricate metal objects, including layout, cutting, measuring, and assisting the welder in creating the desired product.
- Assists licensed HVAC technicians.
- Operates and maintains various types of hand tools and small power tools; helps maintain inventory control for tools.
- Assists with event support, snow removal, and other emergency tasks, which may include nights, weekends, or holidays as needed.
- Adheres to established safety procedures.
- Must be able to climb and work on ladders or lifts to reach high ceilings or walls.
- Other duties may be assigned.
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED). Minimum of six months of related experience in a construction or mechanical environment.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS Language SkillsAbility to read and comprehend instructions. Ability to understand and follow specific oral or written directions.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common sense to carry out written or oral instructions.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONSRequires a valid, appropriate driver’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. May be required to pass a CJIS background check due to working in secured areas, depending on area of assignment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe physical demands described here represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit.
The employee must regularly lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include the ability to adjust focus.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
