Job Description

Responsibilities
- Grocery Clerk (Bakery/Deli) will prepare items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment.
- Bakery/Deli Clerk should offer product samples to help customers discover new items or products they inquire about.
- Grocery Clerk (Bakery/Deli) will inform customers of bakery and/or deli specials.
- Provide customers with fresh products that they have ordered and the correct portion size to prevent shrink.
- Recommend deli or bakery items to customers to ensure they get the products they want and need.
- Use all equipment in bakery (refrigerators, freezers, slicers, ovens) according to company guidelines.
- Prepare foods according to food temperature logs and follow cooking instructions.
- Measure, prepare and mix ingredients according to recipe using a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment.
- Label, stock and inventory department merchandise; adequately prepare, package, label and inventory ingredients.
- Check product quality to ensure freshness; review sell-by dates and take appropriate action.
- Operate kitchen equipment (stove, computerized scale, fryer, steamer, etc.) safely and according to guidelines.
- Maintain product labeling and inventory; report ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
- Understand store layout and assist customers in locating products.
- Stay current with present, future, seasonal and special ads; gain knowledge of products to answer questions and make suggestions.
- Maintain awareness of inventory/stocking conditions and note discrepancies.
- Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers and maintain temperature logs.
- Promote trust and respect among associates; create an environment where customers feel welcome and valued.
- Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines; reinforce safety programs and report unsafe conditions.
- Inspect equipment and arrange for repairs as needed; notify management of accidents.
- Work cooperatively in a high-paced environment; manage conflict constructively; handle customer and business information with honesty and integrity.
- Provide support and assistance in interactions with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
- Must be able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Qualifications
Minimum Position Qualifications:
- Customer Service skills
- Effective communication skills
- Knowledge of basic math
- Ability to obtain current food handlers permit once employed
