The Acute Care Surgery Service (ACS) at Carilion New River Valley (CNRV) – a 110‑bed acute care Level III Trauma Center – invites an Advance Practice Provider (APP) to join our multidisciplinary team. The APP will work across the ACS divisions of Trauma, Emergency General Surgery (EGS), and Surgical Critical Care (SCC), providing patient management, clinical decision‑making, bedside procedures, and education.
- Perform admissions, history, and physicals
- Order and interpret laboratory and imaging studies
- Form preliminary diagnoses and develop treatment plans
- Manage injuries and illnesses, counsel patients and families, and prescribe medication
- Support surgical procedures (e.g., incision & drainage, chest tube placement, central lines, dialysis catheters)
- Coordinate care with attending physicians, residents, nurses, pharmacists, case managers, and social workers
- Take responsibility for the entire inpatient journey from first consult to discharge and follow‑up
- Participate in quality and process improvement, research, peer review, and shared governance initiatives
Education: Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
Experience: Minimum 0 years (entry‑level).
Licensure & Certification: Current state Licensed Nurse Practitioner (LNP), DEA license and Registered Nurse (RN) licensure required. AHA BLS‑HCP required;
Advanced Life Support preferred. Eligible for prescriptive authority under the Virginia Boards of Nursing and Medicine.
Other Requirements: Ability to work collaboratively with physicians and other health‑care providers, strong written and oral communication, computer literacy for electronic medical records.
