Position: Carilion Travel RN -  Part Time

Travel Registered Nurse – Part Time, Evening/Night Shift

Carilion Clinic is seeking a dedicated Travel RN to perform varied nursing functions across multiple disciplines and facilities. Assignments will vary depending on the type of assignment, facility, and patient population. Critical thinking and flexibility are essential to maintain the competencies needed to cover Carilion enterprise needs.

Responsibilities
  • Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care to achieve optimum outcomes for patients of all ages.
  • Completes age‑specific admissions and ongoing assessments, documents them, and uses them to develop a plan of care.
  • Collaborates with healthcare team members, patients, and families to develop, implement, and evaluate an age‑specific interdisciplinary plan of care, revising the plan as patient status changes.
  • Accurately administers treatments and medications, documenting them in the automated computer system, including electronic medical records.
  • Identifies patient/family educational needs in a timely manner, incorporates them into the plan of care, and documents implementation.
  • Contributes to Carilion Clinics performance‑improvement activities.
  • Acts as a patient advocate, protects patients’ rights, and provides psychological, social, and cultural support.
  • Applies knowledge of growth and development to properly care for all patients served.
  • Synthesizes multiple points of data and clinical symptoms to formulate a comprehensive plan of care that supports patient‑focused care, throughput, and organizational initiatives.
  • Performs within clinical, leadership, and educational pathways to support evidence‑based, quality patient care and performance improvement.
  • Demonstrates clinical expertise in rapidly changing circumstances.
  • Plans strategies to reduce length of stay, turnaround time, resource consumption, and improve patient outcomes.
  • Functions as a role model and mentor to coworkers, students, and physicians.
  • Manages resources, establishes priorities, and adjusts the environment to meet patient care needs.
  • Completes manager/director predetermined projects within specified time frames and according to guidelines.
  • Uses problem‑solving methods to resolve patient and personnel situations in the work area.
  • Acts in the orientation of new employees.
  • Provides feedback to staff using appropriate communication and documentation.
  • Participates in unit, hospital, and system activities to facilitate staff input in decision making.

Interacts with patients, families, visitors, and all members of the healthcare team to develop, coordinate, and manage the plan of care. Delegates and oversees delivery of patient care. Maintains patient, staff, and customer confidentiality. Demonstrates knowledge of life‑span development and assesses data reflective of the patient’s status. May be exposed to infectious diseases, bio‑hazardous and hazardous materials, including regulated medical waste, and combative patients.

Work is performed in a fast‑paced environment requiring prioritization skills. Physical requirements include lifting, prolonged periods of standing, bending, pushing, pulling, reaching, and walking. Travel to other Carilion facilities is required based upon vacancy and prioritized patient needs.

Shift and Employment

Shift: Evening/Night (United States of America). Employment Status:
Part Time.

Facility and Travel

Facility: 1906 Belleview Ave SE – Roanoke, VA. Travel to other Carilion facilities is required based upon vacancy and prioritized patient needs.

Requirements Education

Graduate of a school of professional nursing at an accredited college. BSN preferred.

Experience

2 years of experience in a related field (3 years of ED experience required for ED assignments).

Licensure / Certification

Registered Nurse licensed in Virginia or eligible to obtain Virginia RN licensure.

  • Psychiatry & Behavioral Health:
    De‑escalation training must be completed within 1 year of hire and maintained thereafter. Must pass a criminal record check per Virginia State Law.
  • Pediatrics:
    Care delivered within competency to pediatric and PICU (PALS & PEARS required).
  • Home Health:
    Must hold a valid VA driver’s license and pass a criminal record check…
