The Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center is a magnificent and storied hotel in Roanoke, Virginia. Built in 1882, the Tudor-style hotel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a member of the International Association of Conference Centers. The hotel has 329 guest rooms and suites, with facilities for business and leisure travelers, including over 63,000 square feet of flexible event space, audiovisual equipment, professional event planning services, and attentive staff.

We are looking for a highly motivated Banquet Captain to join our team. This individual will direct the setup and preparation of banquet rooms for functions, serve and bus tables, and clear and tear down banquet rooms at the end of functions. They will assist the Banquet Manager and lead the performance of all hourly banquet food and beverage servers and housemen, acting as the personal representative of the property to banquet guests.
They will coordinate all aspects of the room setup and food and beverage service to enhance guest satisfaction and maximize revenues. This is a tremendous opportunity for a driven person to grow and learn at a world-class property.
- Set up for functions to include draping tables, setting silverware, folding napkins, preparing drinks and centerpieces.
- Service to include picking up food from back hall, carrying trays to function location, serving food and clearing dishes from tables.
- Break down to include bussing tables, putting away dirty linen and centerpieces, vacuuming, cleaning back hall, and organizing storerooms.
- Set up for AM or PM break stations that include coffee, tea, snacks, and beverages.
- Assist as needed with event room setup according to meal period and table needs.
- Perform food and beverage preparation duties such as preparing condiments, brewing coffee, and ensuring workstations are stocked.
- Serve food and beverages to guests; remove dishes, glasses, silverware, or other items from tables/countertops and take them to the kitchen.
- Clean and sanitize tables and seating areas after guests are finished.
- Explain how various menu items are prepared, cooking methods, and ingredients.
- Consider guest special requests and dietary issues.
- Provide general property information and offer warm and sincere welcome/farewell for all guests.
- Interact with staff professionally, assisting other departments with necessary information.
- Ensure final quality check on food and beverage items prior to serving guests.
- Monitor assigned tables for customer satisfaction, quality, and additional service.
- Address guest issues promptly and with high concern.
- Aid other events and restaurant staff as needed, maintaining awareness of safety issues.
- 2-4 years of food service experience, preferably Banquet service
- Experience in a 4-star or 5-star venue with synchronized service
- Knowledge of wine, beer, cocktails, and spirits
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Passion for creating an exceptional guest experience
- Excellent communication skills
$6.50 per hour (base rate).
