Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical-Renal Progressive Care Unit (PCU) night shift position requiring Epic experience and ACLS/BLS/NIHSS certifications.

Responsibilities
  • Work in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with a medical-renal focus serving adult and geriatric patients
  • Typical patient ratio is 1:5, including care for chronic ventilator patients and hospitalist medicine cases with renal and other medical diagnoses
  • Unit also cares for gastrointestinal, pulmonary, and other surgical/procedural patients as needed
  • Night shifts consist of three 12-hour shifts from 6:45pm to 7:15am, with the option for four 12-hour shifts upon request
  • Uses Epic for electronic charting;
    Epic experience is required
  • Required to work either every other weekend or six weekend shifts within a six-week scheduling block
  • Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
  • Floating within skillset is required
  • Responsibilities include providing comprehensive care to medical-renal and chronic ventilator patients as well as supporting hospitalist medicine and select surgical/procedural cases
  • Must be able to respond to rapid response and code team situations
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply

  • Must be willing to float within unit skillset as required
  • All requests for time off must be submitted with application
  • A copy of valid driver’s license and Social Security card may be required prior to assignment start
Requirements
  • Active Virginia or compact RN license is required; pending license accepted if from a non-compact state
  • Current ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications are required
  • Prior experience in PCU, DOU, IMC, or Stepdown settings is required
  • Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation/management, and management of non-titrating cardiac drips
  • Proficiency in IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
  • Experience with respiratory support via nasal cannula/oxygen, non-invasive airway management, and isolation precautions
  • Epic charting experience is required
  • Two references are needed for consideration
