Job Description

American Traveler is seeking a skilled RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) cardiac observation position requiring active VA or compact RN licensure and strong cardiac monitoring expertise.

Responsibilities

• Work in a PCU setting focused on cardiac observation for adult and geriatric patients

• High patient turnover with primary focus on chest pain management, expediting ER flow, and MI rule in/out

• Patient ratios are generally 1:5, with a goal of 1:4

• Care for overflow from cardiology and medicine PCUs and occasional post-cath patients

• Remote telemetry with on-unit monitors and tele sitting implemented

• Uses Epic EMR; previous Epic experience required

• Night shift schedule, three 12-hour shifts per week (6:45pm-7:15am)

• Weekend work required (either every other weekend or six weekend shifts per six-week block)

• Holiday coverage required for one holiday per 13-week contract

• Floating within skillset is required

• Locals accepted

• Responsibilities include managing cardiac drips (Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose dopamine/dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix without titration)

• Provide respiratory support using nasal cannula, oxygen delivery, and non-invasive airway management

• Must be able to care for rapidly changing patient caseload in a high-turnover environment

• Floating may occur within the PCU or related units based on clinical competency

• First-time travelers are welcome to apply

• All requested time off (RTO) must be included up front for consideration

Requirements

• Active VA or compact RN license required (pending license accepted for single-state non-compact only)

• Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required

• Prior experience in cardiac monitoring and emergency response required

• Proficiency with Epic EMR required

• Clinical skills must include dysrhythmia interpretation, rapid response/code team activation, IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, management of specific cardiac drips, and non-invasive respiratory support
