Position: Accreditation Coordinator - TEMPORARY (no benefits)

Overview

The City of Roanoke's Police Department is seeking an Accreditation Coordinator to assist the Accreditation Manager in facilitating the implementation of new and revised standards by assessing the impact of changes on current policies and the need for the creation of new policies; does related work as required. The Accreditation Coordinator will work up to 32 hours per week between the hours of 8am - 5pm Monday through Friday and one weekend per year during the accreditation evaluation process.

Essential

duties and responsibilities
  • Reviews department policies and procedures for compliance with accreditation standards
  • Updates accreditation plan as necessary
  • Assists in writing directives to assure accreditation requirements
  • Identifies trends in CALEA (Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies) standard development and alerts management to anticipated changes
  • Prepares reports on existing department operations, methods and procedures relating to accreditation standards
  • Develops and maintains department manuals as necessary
  • Collects the appropriate reports and proof to satisfy accreditation standards
  • Plans preliminary and on-site assessments; gives tours to assessors
  • Conducts policy research and surveys of other jurisdictions relating to accreditation
  • Maintains all records associated with accreditation
  • Trains department personnel on accreditation process
  • Participates in special projects

Education and/or experience

Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university; three to five years administrative experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to prepare reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and the general public.

Reasoning ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
