PRN Speech Therapist – Virginia Department of Veterans Services

PayBase pay range: $27.00/hr – $56.00/hr
Hiring Range: $27.76 – $56.65

ResponsibilitiesEstablish skilled speech treatment plans for residents. Conduct speech services once plans are made, including symbolic language, dysphasia, aphasia, voice treatment, and treatment for communication and assistive devices.
Work cooperatively with other IDT members to design integrated plans and provide supportive documentation. Identify goals, objectives, and plans for all patients receiving ST services within established time frames, and ensure assessments are completed timely. Attend and actively participate in clinics, meetings, and use appropriate lines of communication and resources within the system to facilitate change and resolve problems.
Provide direction and training for speech-related services implemented by non-speech staff as needed. Deliver in-service training to departmental staff on topics relevant to departmental goals. Attend and complete all mandatory training as scheduled and assist with additional activities as assigned.
Review medical records to collect assessment data, gather additional information through interviews with client, staff, and family, and complete initial evaluations and subsequent re‑certifications as needed.
Attend department and other meetings, conduct department meetings as assigned, complete ancillary documentation and communications. Follow all safety rules and regulations, initiate and recommend corrective actions for violations, maintain clean and safe environments, and recommend new equipment purchases. Serve on committees as designated and complete special projects as assigned. Perform supervision of CFY candidates per ASHA regulations.
All other duties assigned by the Director of Rehabilitation.
Minimum QualificationsKnowledge of assessment and treatment in general speech therapy and developmental disabilities, standards of practice at ICF/MRs, and effective resource management principles. Skilled in verbal and written communication, decision‑making, problem‑solving, and conflict resolution. Ability to lead and coordinate work of the therapy department and cross‑functional departments as needed.
Additional ConsiderationsExperience with neurologically involved and developmentally disabled patients is beneficial. Prior professional speech therapy experience in a long‑term care or adult geriatric setting is advantageous.
