Description
The City of Roanoke is seeking a Treasurer Clerk to perform work in the collection and adjustment of taxes. The successful candidate will analyze and process various payments received for tax bills and other city charges through PC cash register terminals; analyze and process money received by electronic funds transfer from federal and state governments; verify and process money received from other departments;
issue dog licenses and vehicle decals; analyze and process credit card payments; maintain paid files for receipts of all taxes; and complete daily balancing procedures generating reports and documents.
Requirements for applicants
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) supplemented by business courses; one to three years related experience and/or training in working with the public and money transactions; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Supplemental Information Language SkillsAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to prepare routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Paid leave is time off from work available for use by an employee upon approval by supervisor. The first 24 consecutive leave hours for any illness must be charged to paid leave with additional time charged to extended illness leave. Paid leave for employees of the city shall accrue as follows:
- 0 - 4 years of service: 12 hours per month
- 5 - 9 years of service: 14 hours per month
- 10 - 14 years of service: 16 hours per month
- 15 - 19 years of service: 17 hours per month
- 20 - 24 years of service: 18 hours per month
- 25+ years of service: 32…
