Job DescriptionAECOM is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our Buildings & Places Electrical Engineering team. This role supports the design and delivery of building projects across commercial, institutional, and federal/DoD sectors.
The Electrical Engineer performs defined and moderately complex portions of electrical design assignments and may serve as electrical lead on projects aligned with demonstrated experience and professional level. This role is suited for an established professional who can independently execute primary design elements, apply sound engineering judgment using established procedures, and contribute to successful project delivery within agreed budgets and schedules.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Design & Analysis
- Perform electrical design for building projects, including power distribution, lighting systems, grounding and bonding, and life safety systems.
- Prepare calculations such as load calculations, voltage drop, short circuit analysis, lighting photometrics, and lighting layouts using established engineering methods.
- Develop one-line diagrams, panel schedules, equipment layouts, and construction documents.
- Gather and correlate engineering data to support system sizing and code compliance.
- Identify discrepancies in design results and resolve routine technical issues using standard engineering practices.
- Propose modifications to standard approaches when encountering new but related problems.
- Serve as electrical lead on projects commensurate with demonstrated experience and professional level.
- Coordinate with architectural, mechanical, structural, and other disciplines to support integrated design.
- Manage assigned scope within agreed budget and schedule.
- Escalate complex, high-risk, or specialized system decisions to senior engineers as appropriate.
Construction Phase Support
- Review submittals and respond to RFIs for assigned projects or scopes.
- Participate in construction coordination and site visits as required.
- Support implementation of design intent during construction.
- Provide guidance and support to entry-level engineers and designers.
- Participate in internal QA/QC reviews to maintain documentation quality.
- Continue developing technical expertise and expanding project leadership capability.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program.
- 4+ years of professional electrical engineering design experience.
- Experience with Revit and/or AutoCAD in a building design environment.
- U.S. Citizenship (required for federal/DoD projects).
- Valid driver’s license, and as a condition of employment, must pass AECOM's motor vehicle records review.
- Some travel is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience leading electrical designs for building projects in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
- Familiarity with SKM, AGi
32, or similar analysis tools. - Experience supporting federal or government projects.
- EIT certification or progression toward PE licensure.
