Education/QualificationsRequired
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
- Minimum Two (2) years of clinical experience post qualification
- Minimum One (1) year in post partum care
Current and in good Standing Nursing License/Registration (RN) to practice in country of residence
Job Duties and Responsibilities- Provide direct nursing care to mothers and newborns during the immediate and early post partum period.
- Perform comprehensive maternal assessments including vital signs, uterine tone, lochia, perineal status, and pain evaluation.
- Monitor for early signs of post partum hemorrhage, infection, hypertension, and other complications.
- Assess newborn adaptation including feeding, temperature regulation, weight monitoring, and bonding.
- Support and promote breastfeeding, offering hands on guidance and referral to lactation support when needed.
- Administer prescribed medications such as analgesics, antibiotics, and Rh immunoglobulin.
- Provide wound care for cesarean section incisions and episiotomy sites.
- Educate mothers and families on newborn care, safe sleep, feeding cues, hygiene, and warning signs.
- Support maternal emotional wellbeing and screen for post partum mood concerns.
- Prepare families for discharge with clear instructions on recovery, follow up appointments, and infant care.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of maternal and neonatal assessments and interventions.
- Collaborate with obstetricians, pediatricians, midwives, and multidisciplinary team members.
- Uphold infection prevention and patient safety standards within the unit.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to maternal and neonatal care.
- Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for junior nursing staff and students.
- Maintain professional accountability within RN scope of practice and hospital policies.
- Perform additional unit related duties as assigned.
