Job Requirements
  • Master's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing (online degrees/diplomas are not accepted), and
  • Current Nursing (RN) license in North America, Western Europe, or Australia/New Zealand, and
  • Specialty qualification related to area of expertise required. Evidence must be provided, and
  • Minimum of four years with MSN or six years with BSN of current experience as a RN, including at least two years of current leadership experience, working in a mid- to large-size acute-care hospital setting in North America, Western Europe, or Australia/New Zealand.
Department Information

This Center for Childrenâ s Cancer Research in Riyadh is a 40-bed hospital operates as part of our client hospital and offers both inpatient and outpatient facilities.

This is the largest program dedicated to pediatric cancer and blood disorders in the region, and the second largest internationally (second to St Jude, USA). Between 60 â 70% (approximately 350-450 new cases annually) of the Kingdomâ s pediatric malignancies are cared for by the Department of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. In addition to pediatric oncology, the program is considered the reference center in the region for the complicated non-malignant hematological disorders.

Childrenâ

s Cancer Center consists of:
  • Two inpatient care wards (Ward A, Ward

    B)
  • Outpatient Department
  • Walk-in clinic
  • Pediatric oncology ICU
Care Ward A (CWA)

is a twenty (20) bed unit, which provides acute care to pediatric hematology and oncology patients from birth to 14 years of age. The unit consists of twenty (20) positive air pressure rooms.

This child-friendly unit is located on the second level of the new expansion area of the Centre for Childrenâ s Cancer (also known as CCC).

The majority of the children admitted to the center are infants, toddlers, and of pre-school age, although we do admit up to age of 14. On rare occasions, we do admit adolescents if the patient are still under the care of the pediatric hematology/oncology physician. One sitter or parent is encouraged to stay with the patient to reduce trauma of hospitalization.

The most commonly treated oncology disorders include:

  • Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia
  • Acute Myelogenous Leukemia
  • Aplastic Anemia
  • Sickle Cell Anemia
  • Langerhanâ s Cell Histiocytosis
  • Non-Hodgkinâ s Lymphoma
  • Hodgkinâ s Lymphoma
  • Burkittâ s Lymphoma

Due to the predominance of pediatric oncology patients, CWA also provides acute care to this patient population.

The most commonly treated oncology disorders include:

  • Osteosarcomas
  • Ewingâ s Sarcoma/PNET
  • Neuroblastoma/CNS tumors
  • Germ Cell Tumor
  • Wilmâ s Tumor
  • Rhabdomyosarcoma
  • Retinoblastoma
Frequent Procedures/Services/Functions
  • Consistent use of nursing process, assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation by the health care team.
  • Medication delivery including chemotherapy administration and management
  • Blood and Blood product administration and management
  • Central Venous Lines (Infusaport, Hickman Line, Temporary CVC line and PICC line) and peripheral intravenous line management
  • Supportive treatment such as administration of antibiotic, IV fluids and other medications
  • Nutritional support like TPN, NGT feeding, weight monitoring and dietary instruction
  • Prepares patient for procedures like Bone Marrow Aspiration with Biopsy, Lumbar Puncture, CT Scan, Echocardiography, MRI and others
  • Provides care for patients undergoing procedure under conscious sedation
  • Hemodynamic monitoring
  • Pain assessment and management
  • Oxygen Therapy
  • Provides emotional and psychological support
  • Provides care to post radiation therapy patients
  • Infectious disease management and follows isolation policies
  • Starts the pre BMT work-up
  • Provides patient and family educations
  • Patient assessment and evaluation
