Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Senior Underwriting manager, the Medical underwriting assistant manager will perform:

  • Underwrites risks that fall within own authority. Ensures that underwriting decisions are profitable, consistent, equitable, and prudent, per Company’s standards and practices, and achieving expected mortality results
  • Assists Underwriters in the operational work of underwriting and approving risks that fall above their own authorities or referred for second opinion and helps in underwriting cases that fall below own authority as and when required, especially during peak periods.
  • Trains and develops underwriters, including enrolment in Company sponsored educational courses together with HR and ensure appropriate authorities are delegated to staff
  • Ensures that underwriting comments are properly documented by self and all underwriters in chronological and concise manner
  • Ensures that Company standards are met and kept up to date in collaboration with the actuaries, medical body, and any other designated entity.
  • Deals with claims referred by Claims Department and takes timely action on contestability and modification / decisions and ensures that all claims are reviewed, with emphasis on examining the original underwriting decisions as a learning tool
  • Reviews periodically and in depth, the Non-Productive Business with the objective of monitoring the Conversion Ratio, retention Ratio and Non-Productive Business
  • Establishes Department objectives and priorities in line with corporate goals and manages and Coordinates Underwriting staff’s efforts through the effective use of the Daily Flow Chart and the application of planning, organizing, and controlling for the purpose of achieving Company goals of service against anticipated production objectives.
  • Oversee / audit the underwriting and risk selection process for all product lines.
  • Ensures full compliance at all times of Underwriting Dept. with internal controls and audit requirements and all related regulations including but not limited to IA &CCHI.
  • Analyze claims trends and underwriting performance to recommend adjustments to pricing models or policy benefits
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations for management on underwriting performance and market trends.
  • Performs any other duty that may be requested by the Technical Head, or CEO.
  • Build and maintain relationships with brokers, agents, and direct clients to achieve business objectives and ensure satisfaction.
  • Participate in client meetings alongside the Sales team to support deal closure, leveraging strong communication and negotiation skills to address client concerns, present underwriting rationale confidently, and persuade clients toward mutually beneficial decisions
  • Instills staff’s highest sense of quality service and sense of urgency
  • Work on specifically assigned projects
  • Establish procedures, guidelines, goals, and authority levels for the Department
  • Ensures that turnaround times are maintained and workflow is steady and evenly distributed to the underwriters and is in control
  • Oversee / audit the underwriting and risk selection process for Medical line
  • Stay updated on healthcare trends, medical advancements, and regulatory changes to ensure the organization remains competitive and compliant.
  • Evaluate competitors’ products and pricing to recommend adjustments to the organization's offerings.
Education
  • Bachelor degree of Insurance / Business Administration / management Information System / Account / Finance
Experience
  • 8+ experience in Medical underwriting field
