Position: Design Manager - SAU (f/m)

We are seeking a Design Manager as part of DB Engineering & Consulting GmbH, Riyadh Branch. The job opening is located in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and offers exciting challenges and potential for career growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Leading and coordinating all design review activities (architectural, structural, MEP, infrastructure) and providing technical oversight during the construction supervision phase.
  • Ensures that designs are compliant, coordinated, buildable, cost-effective, and aligned with project objectives, contractual requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Manage design consultants and ensure timely submission of deliverables.
  • Review and validate design reports, drawings, specifications, and calculations.
  • Ensure proper coordination between all disciplines to avoid clashes and conflicts.
  • Monitor compliance with project scope, standards, and authority regulations.
  • Ensure designs meet client requirements, local codes, and international standards.
  • Review value engineering proposals and technical alternatives.
  • Verify constructability, maintainability, and operational efficiency of designs.
  • Identify technical risks and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Coordinate design interfaces between stakeholders, utilities, authorities, and contractors.
  • Manage responses to RFIs (Requests for Information) related to design.
  • Ensure timely resolution of technical queries during construction.
  • Review shop drawings, material submittals, and method statements.
  • Support resolution of site design discrepancies and field changes.
  • Assess and recommend approval of variation orders related to design modifications.
  • Ensure the successful implementation of an effective reporting system aligned to the best practices of DB E&C.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Architecture, Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • At least 15 years of experience in design management & construction supervision in infrastructure projects, including at least 10 years of experience in railway projects. Proven experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Professional registration or chartership preferred.
  • Have working experience in KSA or another GCC country.
  • Solid understanding and track record in program management, design review and construction supervision railways project.
  • Track record in resource planning, quality and safety management, customer, and stakeholder management, etc.
  • Demonstrated initiative, drive, leadership, communication, interpersonal skills, and quest for optimization.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, as well organization and planning skills.
  • Ability to work in a cooperative team environment, with stakeholders from very different fields.
  • Excellent communication skills – fluent in English (reading, writing, and speaking)
  • Arabic language communication skills will be an advantage.
  • User skills in MS Office applications, proficiency in design software tools as such AUTOCAD, BIM… etc.
  • Driving license required to drive to site or to technical meetings with the client representative.
